I ended up wearing a lot of all-black outfits around the holidays. It might seem to be an unusual pick for the season where everything is all sparkles and party dresses and celebrating (and who says that has to end?!), but there is something so simple, sexy, and flattering about all black. No matter what the occasion, it works.
Wearing it head-to-toe makes accessorizing really easy and fun, because everything pops against a simple black sweater and faux-leather leggings (like above, paired with a silver and turquoise bracelet I found at an antique store in North East, Maryland). Or a black jumpsuit (which I wore for Christmas, paired with a sleeveless sweater with a faux-fur collar and purpleish-blue pumps). Or a blazer, loose tee, tights and sequin-covered shorts - all black (which I wore for New Year’s with mustard-toned, suede Brooks Brothers flats that have tiny metallic owls on them).
And I couldn’t have timed my inclination for all black and my semi-obsession with bright lipstick any better: It’s the ultimate classic combo. I am thrilled that I can pretty much pull off lipstick now, because a) I always feared I would look like a kid playing dress up and b) it means I am one step closer to becoming TSwift.
It’s been almost a year since I shot my first style post. My love for this little blog has blossomed so much. I’ve written about statement necklaces, how to bring a summer dress into fall, and “How to Deal When Life’s a Beach,” which was shot, of course, on the beach. I wore my grandfather’s Dior sweater for one of my favorite shoots, which was set at night, not far from my apartment in Brooklyn. I couldn’t have done it without Tom’s help—he’s the photographer behind every fashion story (except for this lovely one, photographed by my dear friend Mitch).
Tom’s photos have helped me to believe my creative dreams for Sugar & Spice can become a reality. He encourages me to keep going for what I want… and I am so very grateful for him and for his unwavering support. ❤︎
