OK, so it's not quite head-to-toe denim. I'm not wearing a denim cap or shoes... that would be a look! To me, a denim button-up, bright-colored tee, and boyfriend jeans are the ultimate easy weekend outfit. The key to making it cool is to keep the top and bottom denim pieces loose-fitting. Try showing a bit of ankle and adding eye-catching shoes.
I wear this denim button-up all the time (basically: obsessed!): at work, on the weekend, and everything in between—I think it would even make a cool bathing suit cover up. With the weather being so wacky in New York lately (i.e. 70 degrees one day and 30 the next), I like having a few options when I'm getting dressed for my day off, since I'll inevitably get cold or need to shed a layer if I'm running around. This post shows a few (very simple) ways you can throw together denim on top and bottom, and switch it up throughout the day as your mood changes. You could start with the top buttoned up (try leaving one part of the shirt untucked, like you can see in the fourth and fifth photos down from the top) or unbutton it totally and leave it open and easy-breezy. Or tie it around your waist while you're running errands. (Turns out tying a denim top or jacket around your waist is actually the ultimate in laid-back cool.) If you're going for preppy, tie it around your shoulders. And then the sort of "fashion" look is to drape it around your shoulders with your arms free (like below).

Thank you so much for reading, and thank you also for your kind words about the profile on Laura last week! I'm super inspired by her and I hope you are, too. (Take a look at the story if you haven't already!) Have a great rest of your week and a fabulous weekend (hope there's lots of denim involved!).
Xoxo, Heather
