I’ve had my eye on the necklace below, from BaubleBar, since December. I literally saw it and thought NEED. NOW. I wanted to wait until a sale - I am very much on a budget - even though it’s $40 at full price, not necessarily a splurge. I can justify fashion purchases a little more in my mind if I saved some money! So although time passed (months!), I didn’t forget about it. (That’s how you know something is worth purchasing.) Lo and behold I got an email a few weeks ago for 25% off; I was on it like white on rice. The box came last weekend, with the necklace nestled inside a black jewelry bag, wrapped in brightly colored tissue paper. Super fun to open. And all of the “Yay!” stickers that came with it? Definitely saved those… Take a look!
3 Tips for Wearing a Statement Necklace
1. Keep the rest of your outfit simple. When you’re wearing a big necklace like this, it’s probably not the best time for an arm party of bangles and stacks of rings. (I’d skip earrings altogether.) I tend to be minimal with jewelry - here I added only a watch. Other glitz will just be a distraction. Think about where you want the focus to be when you’re dressing and tone down the rest.
2. Mix up the looks you wear it with, then you can sport it more often. A statement necklace can be hard to wear a lot because of just that - it’s an attention-grabber. So mix up what you wear it with. Try it tucked under the collar of a button-up one week, with a t-shirt, like here, the next, with a dress the following week, with a peasant-style shirt, etc.
3. Try to stick with the same metal family. I’m a stickler for this, but I’ve also gone a little crazy and changed entire outfits just because I realized the button on my blazer or the buckle on my boot was gold and I was wearing silver… Not necessary to start from scratch with your OOTD (outfit of the day), but something to keep in mind. If you’re wearing big gold bling, try to keep an eye on the metallic accents on your bags and shoes, so that they’re in sync.
What? Me? Oh, just needed a quick snack. I’m a HUGE fan of cheddar.
Necklace, BaubleBar; tee, PINK by Victoria’s Secret; white jeans, American Eagle; purple high tops, Converse; watch, Anne Klein; hat, Hat Attack (similar here).
So there is my beloved bling. It might appear a little much, but I am so IN LOVE with it. This past year has been one of the happiest, most thrilling times for me. A ton of changes, but all have turned out pretty well. So wearing a big “Happy” necklace, well, it just feels right.
