New Yorkers walk a lot. Doesn't matter if it's raining or snowing or hailing, a big part of our transportation is our sweet feet! So you'll need boots that can survive snowstorms and bomb cyclones, keep you warm *and* look good. Here are three must-have styles for powering through the inevitable OMG-it's-so-cold days to come.
1. All-Weather Boots
These L.L. Bean boots are the OG style for frigid temps. (They've been around for over 100 years and each pair is assembled and stitched by hand in Maine.) Good-quality duck boots last for years and years and they'll keep your feet warm and dry as you wade through major slush puddles to get to work in the morning. They somehow manage to be preppy and tough-looking at the same time, too, which I love. (P.S. The L.L Bean styles tend to back-order like crazy, so if you're thinking about buying a pair, know that they might take a few months to arrive, like mine did.)
Find yours: The duck boots I'm wearing above are the Raven Blue style. Also try this, this or this.
2. Pointy, Block-Heeled Boots
Simple, sleek black ankle boots go with every kind of outfit (whether you're off-duty, at work or meeting friends for drinks) and they add a bit of edge to your look—even when you're headed out in 23 layers. I wear the Marc Fisher pair above almost every day. They're super comfortable and the low, sturdy heel makes them really easy to walk in.

3. Fleece-Lined Boots
You know when you walk outside and it's like oof? Where it's so unbelievably cold that it takes your breath away? That's when you need fleece-lined boots to keep your toes toasty. I found a great pair of faux-fur-lined desert boots from H&M a few years ago, which I still wear, and I also love these TOMS sneaker boots (they're partially lined, just at the ankle). My feet get cold super fast, so I reach for one of these when I know I'll be walking around outside a lot. (Of course, a thick layer of socks helps, too!)

Cheers to staying warm in a new pair of wintry boots. Love to you all!
xoxo, Heather
