My friend Kirti gave me this top years ago after one of her visits to India, and I've been wearing it a lot lately. I love how it looks tucked into denim: my high-waisted black pair or light-wash flares or, of course, these ripped H&M boyfriend jeans.
Kirti says the general term for this style of top is called a "kurta." But any tunic or ’70s-style blouse will do for getting a similar look.
This is the last post in my boyfriend jeans series, and I'm still wearing them every chance I get (the first two posts are here and here). They are the comfiest, least-restricting kind of denim, and I just can't get enough. It can be hard to find a good pair, as I mentioned here. I've tried on tons of boyfriend jeans over the years and couldn't find ones that I liked (I was pretty much like, OK, maybe the style just isn't for me, *tear*) until I gave it another go at H&M (and found not one, but two pairs!).
The thing with boyfriend jeans? They're going to fit in a little bit of an "unflattering" way. It's a different look than smooth, skintight skinny jeans, or even flowing, make-your-legs-look-super-long flares. Boyfriend jeans are baggy, a bit rebellious. They have an attitude; they're sexy and cool without being body-hugging. I love that. It doesn't mean that I'm abandoning my skinny jeans, but I'm reveling in something new that makes me feel pretty kickass. I hope you find your pair (if you haven't already). Don't give up if it takes you awhile. Like all good things that come with time, it will be worth it when they cross your path. Haha! ;)
Back to my friend Kirti. She just happens to be staying with me this weekend in Brooklyn. We're going to do some NYC sightseeing (exploring this city is something I don't do nearly as much as I'd like!), and we'll just, you know, cause our usual trouble, ha! I've known Kirti since I was in junior high, so you can say we've been friends for a long, long time! I'm super excited to act like a tourist for a weekend with her, because, of course, there is nothing like New York City during the holidays, and sharing that with a dear friend.
Denim: H&M (similar here, here {a bit of a splurge, but a gorgeous embroidered pair}, here {Levi's on sale for $50!})
Top: similar here, here, and here
Bag: Kate Spade (similar here, here, here)
Shoes: French Connection (similar here, here, here)
Flower ring: similar here and here
Gold bar ring: Madewell
Cheers to finding your perfect pair of boyfriend jeans (without spending a ton!). I hope you get the time this holiday season to explore the town or city where you live with new eyes—my goal for this weekend.
Xoxo, Heather
