I bought two pairs of (my first ever) boyfriend jeans at H&M a few weeks ago, the ones I'm wearing here (which are on sale for $25 right now, BTW!) and this pair from last week's post. The wash pictured here is a little darker, so I think of these as the "dressier" pair. I actually wore this exact outfit to work. I try to avoid wearing denim there normally, if I can. (I always think of that mantra "dress for the job you want, not the job you have.")
The interesting thing is it looks like many (certainly not all) fields are changing—the dress code is becoming much more casual (it's not just a Silicon Valley, startup thing anymore). There's something so boss about working jeans in a professional setting—it goes against all those old-school rules of needing to stick to a suit to be seen as powerful and professional. Pushing the envelope a bit more with ripped jeans, even today, means being a little daring, but you’ll look pretty darn cool, trust.
Even if you wouldn't dream of wearing ripped denim to work, or you wear a uniform (so, moot point), this applies to any situation where you're in the mood for jeans, but you still want to look sophisticated and put-together (like a holiday party). That's where a black blazer and a button-up come into play. To keep everything pretty studious up top, I buttoned this Zara blouse all the way up (I'm obsessed with the gemstone-studded collar). The simple black pumps pull everything together in that "I mean business" way. I added a menswear-style watch and a sparkly chainlink bracelet, plus lipstick for extra polish.

So, I'm thinking of wearing these pants to Thanksgiving this year. Just because I love wearing them so much. (Did I mention they are so, so comfortable?! This pair's even got some stretch in them.) There's a catch though: I'm not just hanging around with my family for Thanksgiving, like usual; my mom and I are going to spend the day with Tom and his family (this means my mom is meeting his parents for the first time, eek!). I think I'm the only one that's actually nervous about this. So of course, I want to look a little dressy. And even though I see Tom's parents and family all the time, I don't want to look like I dressed carelessly (not everyone gets the allure of ripped boyfriend jeans the way I do, ha!). But you know what? I think I'm gonna go for it. I'll add the sweater I'm wearing here and the flats I'm wearing here, and some pretty, delicate jewelry. After all, I wore all that to a Friendsgiving a few weekends ago, and it felt perfectly dressy enough. ;) Wish me luck!
I hope each and every one of you have the most special, happy Thanksgiving, however and wherever you are celebrating. And I hope that you are able to find things to be thankful for. We are lucky in so many ways. One thing I'm thankful for? That you're reading these words this very minute. Thank you, thank you! It means the world to me.
Xoxo, Heather
