You know how there’s all those “rules” in fashion? Really, they’re made to be broken.
Another silly fashion rule? No mixing metals. So no silver and gold, or rose gold and silver, etc. Let’s just say, I used to rearrange whole outfits when I realized my jacket buttons were gold and my jewelry was silver... But my style “rules” have relaxed a bit (it’s more fun that way!) and I often find that the less effort I put into a look, the better it appears.
So sometimes throwing on a bunch of (simple) pieces of jewelry before you run out the door—intentionally mixing it up—is just the right thing to do. Here you can see my earrings, ring, and bracelets are gold. The details on my jacket are silver. (The zippers on my pants are gold-toned, and my high-top sneakers have silver glitter on them.) Gah! That’s a lot of mixing...
I’ll be honest. Most of the time, I still try to keep my jewelry and bag/jacket hardware in the same family. I just feel more pulled-together that way. This outfit proves that mixing metals can look fresh and fun.
The trick, as I mentioned above, is to keep the jewelry really simple when you’re mixing (stick with delicate styles, not so much statement styles). Here’s a few that I love:
stackable rings in gold and silver
tiny arrow studs in gold and silver (why not wear silver in one ear and gold in the other?!)
bar studs in gold, silver, and rose gold
pretty gold hoops
a golden arm party
gold, silver, and rose-gold toned bangles
The lipstick I’m wearing is Fanny by Nars.
Thank you for reading, and happy mixing!
